Having excelled in high school and college athletics in a variety of sports, Steve Romine has the experience of competitive play on all different levels and calibers of playing surfaces. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1975 immediately after high school graduation but chose to attend Auburn University on a football scholarship. He later transferred to the nationally ranked Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida to pursue baseball. Under coaches Ellis Dungan and Walker Swain, he played center field for the baseball team which earned the record for the longest winning streak of any college team in 1977. Romine graduated from college at Troy State University in Alabama where he played for Joe Hollis and the noted Chase Riddle. Prior to his successful college athletic career, Romine was one of the star players on Wheeler High School’s baseball team from Cobb County, Georgia that won the Georgia State Championship in the mid-70s.

As a family man with three athletic sons, Romine uses his baseball knowledge and love of the game to coach Little League. He is sincerely concerned about the safety of his players and feels strongly about the need for better quality playing surfaces. Additionally, Romine believes that professionally constructed fields with superior maintenance attract quality athletes and contribute to more competitive play.

As a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and Business Management, Romine’s background includes a successful career in marketing and sales management. His most recent position prior to coming on board with Sports Turf Management was serving as the regional sales manager for a multi-national corporation. While maintaining a demanding professional career, Romine contributed valuable time to not only Little League coaching but to community service. As an elected board member for Hobgood Park in Cherokee County, Georgia, he was instrumental in the fund raising and development of baseball and softball fields for the park with Skip Kirby, the founder of Sports Turf Management. This association led to his eventually joining the Sports Turf Management Team as Vice President of Renovation Services.

As a Little League coach and a board member, Romine has first hand knowledge of the workings and financial needs of recreation associations. His philosophy is sound in that he recommends building a quality facility requiring less maintenance over time and one that allows for monetary savings over the life of the program.
